New Apartment

It's been a while since my last post but I haven't kept up with taking pictures. Here are a few from the past couple of weeks, including a couple from our move.

Window Seat

Today my pictures come from my in-laws' house. I really liked the late morning light that spilled onto their window seat. The red item is a candle lantern. It has some nice gold streaks that unfortunately don't show well. The second is the shadow/reflection cast by a glass candle holder. The contrast of the pattern from the glass and the wood grain in the seat made for an interesting mix.

Spring

Spring is on its way: the birds are out and the rain has begun to fall. The weather has also begun to warm and I am so very grateful for that. The top picture today is a painting of a bird on a feather that I bought in Nicaragua a number of years ago. The artist took much more care with this piece than many of the similar pieces I saw. The second is one of the birds that I've been hearing and seeing around our apartment; there is a mourning dove around as well, but I haven't been able to get a good picture of it. Lastly: acorn squash and apples. The idea was to make stuffed acorn squash for dinner tonight with an apple filling, but by the time we got around to making dinner, it was a little late for that. I guess we have that to look forward to some other night.

Ten Photos

I have a lot of photos to post today as I haven't posted anything since Thursday. Friday, I went out and took the first four. In order to reach them, I had to wade through the 2 feet of snow sitting in my neighbor's yard; I'm just glad I had my snow boots and ski pants.

The following two were taken the next day. My wife claims that the robin was the fattest bird she's ever seen. It had it's back to us before and we could see red on either side.

The last four are from my wife's parent's house. The cat wanted in and was glaring at us as we ate lunch. Her full name is Tiger Moonya Puff Kitty, although she generally goes by Puff Kitty or just Puff (they couldn't decide on one name so she got all four). Stella is the dog on the floor with her favorite toy. And the two horses are Bar and Lucky, respectively. I'll try to make sure I don't build up so many photos before posting in the future.

Lots of Snow

Yesterday they forecast 6-10 inches of snow for today. I think the pictures below will show quite clearly that we got a lot more. On the car there was more than a foot-and-a-half, while in the drifts it reached over four. But we did have some fun. The snowman was mostly my wife's doing, though I helped some. We had to get a little creative since most of the snow was powder.

The first two pictures below are from a previous day. I missed the best lighting for the shot by about 5 minutes, but they still came out really nicely.

My wife calls him Merry (from The Lord of the Rings).

Blackwater Falls

This weekend I took a trip to Blackwater Falls in WV with my wife's family. We did a lot of cross country skiing, and there's a picture below of my wife on her skis. There are also a lot of pictures of snow, as well as one of the falls itself. The whole trip provided me with a lot of opportunities to take great pictures, and I would love to go back another time when I have a tripod and do some more shooting. The last photo is of Pandemic, a cooperative game I received for Christmas. I played a solo game today and managed to win.

Inside

Today's post is just a bunch of odds and ends I saw that caught my attention. The sunny day made for some nice lighting inside so I didn't have to pull out my flash for any of these. The last one just shows the attack plant getting friendly with our clock; that was one of the sprouts from my post about a week ago.
